The Kitano New York Hotel Salutes Marriage Equality

New York City’s first and only Japanese hotel is offering unique wedding ceremony packages featuring customized and cultural touches starting at just $225 per person

The Kitano New York Hotel joins NYC&Co. in celebrating NYC I DO with specially crafted traditional and Japanese-inspired ceremonies.  The hotel invites couples to celebrate the passage of recent marriage equality legislation in its exclusive Penthouse Terrace room set above Park Avenue. Situated on the 19th floor of the hotel, the penthouse and adjoining terraces offer sweeping views of the Midtown Manhattan skyline with up close and personal views of the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings.  Accommodating up to 100 guests, the penthouse, recently revamped to emanate contemporary elegance, provides an intimate atmosphere for any style ceremony.  The penthouse is surrounded by expansive terraces that provide a scenic locale for cocktails and wedding reception.  In addition, the terraces are the perfect backdrop for picturesque commemorative photos of the day.

The Kitano New York Hotel, well established within the bridal market, is known for services deeply rooted in the ancient Japanese custom of service.  As part of every wedding package couples receive the personal service of a dedicated and detail oriented coordinator and exclusive use of the hotel’s database of consultants and wedding service providers.

The Kitano New York Hotel is the perfect setting for a romantic honeymoon offering 149 guestrooms and suites.  Asian hospitality merges seamlessly with New York style for an ambience that is pure Kitano.  Guestrooms and suites feature custom-made mahogany and cherry furniture, down comforters, exquisite artwork and Roman pleated shades with windows that open to views of the historic Murray Hill, Grand Central Terminal, the Empire State Building and other New York landmarks.

The crown jewel among the hotel’s exquisite accommodations is a traditional Japanese Tatami Suite created from natural and authentic materials and offering traditional service.  The Tatami Suite, which cost nearly $1 million to construct, features original works of art, traditional furnishings and cedar accents imported directly from Japan.  The most significant aspect of the Kitano New York’s suite is the tatami matting which symbolizes a higher social class in the Japanese culture. The mats are constructed with woven rush plant on the surface and rice straw inside-two common goods that grow abundantly throughout the country.  In addition to signifying class level, tatami mats are also commonly used in Japan to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer as they act as cooling agents in the hot and damp climate. Perhaps the most intriguing feature in the suite is the traditional Japanese bath where guests can experience an authentic soak complete with bath salts.  Guests are provided instructions for use to ensure the full experience.

For couples desiring contemporary style accommodations The Kitano New York Hotel offers three one-bedroom Townhouse Suites, located in the adjoining townhouse, are ideal for honeymooners.  Residential in feel, each is utterly distinctive and well-appointed.  A large bay window in the living room of one; in another, three dormer windows are set into a wall with a dramatic slant.  In each suite, guests will find an eclectic book collection on New York themes, ranging from Edith Wharton to Al Hirschfeld.

Several dining options are also offered that include the Garden Café Restaurant featuring Modern American cuisine and the newly design critically-acclaimed Hakubai Restaurant specializing in Kaiseki cuisine.  A fixture in the historic district of Murray Hill for nearly 40 years, The Kitano New York Hotel has maintained its position as one of the city’s leading hotels providing a superior hospitality experience based on the Japanese tradition of service.  For reservations, visit our website or call 212-885-7000.
